GAO Warned of MadCow Risk-FDA left GAPING LOOPHOLES
12.31.03 (2:33 pm) [edit]
Did you know that the T Bone cut of steak is a vertebra from the animal's spinal column, and as such may contain a section of the actual spinal cord? Boneless cuts may be contaminated as well.
Bush's Mad Cow Safeguards Not Enough, Critics Say Wed December 31, 2003 01:20 PM ET
“Consumer advocates also urged the Food and Drug Administration to expand its ban on using remains of ruminant animals, such as cows, in cattle feed and to bar the use of cattle remains in all types of livestock rations.” “Caroline Smith DeWaal, food safety director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said table scraps, roadkill animals and poultry litter must be barred from livestock feed.” http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml" title="http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml" target="_blank"http://www.reuters.com/newsAr...;jsessionid=RGURVGCNKOVYA CRBAE0CFFA?type=domesticN ews&storyID=4061885&pageN umber=1
[48] Both Canada[49] and the United States[50] banned the feeding of the muscles and bones of most animals to cows and sheep back in 1997, but unlike Europe left gaping loopholes in the law. For example, blood is currently exempted from the Canadian[51] and the U.S.[52] feed bans. You can still feed calves cow's blood collected at the slaughterhouse.
In modern factory farming practice calves may be removed from their mothers immediately after birth, so the calves are fed milk replacer, which is often supplemented with protein rich cow serum. Weaned calves and young pigs also may have cattle blood sprayed directly on their feed to save money on feed costs.[53] For more information on this and other risky agriculture practices please see http://organicconsumers.org/m...
And the Canadian[54] and U.S. feed bans[55] also allows the feeding of pigs and horses to cows. Cattle remains can be rendered down and fed to pigs, pig remains can be fed back to cattle.[56] rendered cattle remains can be fed to chickens chicken litter, or manure, can be legally fed back to the cows.[57] So the fact that according to the USDA the most infectious tissues of the U.S. mad cow case, the brain, spinal cord, and intestines, "were removed from this animal and sent to rendering" is not necessarily reassuring.[58]
According to the General Accounting Office in 2002: “The FDA 's failure to enforce the feed ban may already have placed U.S. herds and, in turn, the human food supply at risk. FDA has no clear enforcement strategy for dealing with firms that do not obey the feed ban... Moreover, FDA has been using inaccurate, incomplete, and unreliable data to track and oversee feed ban compliance."[62] The report can be downloaded at http://www.gao.gov/new.items/... | Truth About Mad Cow - The Very Real Risks of US Beef, and Lies Being Told to You |
12.30.03 (7:29 pm) [edit]
In 1996 Oprah was sued by a Cattlemans Association for her show discussing the potential for disease from eating beef, due to lack of proper regulation of the industry:
"One hundred thousand cows per year in the United States are fine at night, dead in the morning. The majority of those cows are rounded up, ground up, turned into feed and fed back to other cows. If only one of them has mad cow disease, it has the potential to affect thousands. Remember today in the United States, 14 percent of all cows by volume are ground up, turned into feed, and fed back to other animals." - Former Texas Cattleman Howard Lyman on the Oprah Winfrey Show, April 16, 1996. Link to that story and transcripts: http://www.prwatch.org/prwiss...
So far, the congress and senate are only proposing to ban slaughter of sick and dying cattle for beef purposes. That does not address the real and largest cause of MAD COW. It is the canablization of the cattle, putting ground up cattle parts and blood in feed given to cattle. Europe had to deal with this problem and made the necessary changes in their regulations and inspections. Mad Cow is carried in blood parts and in muscle tissue. "(This is why if you try to donate your blood to the Red Cross, you will be rejected if you spent significant time in Britain during the height of its mad cow epidemic. Britain is afraid that humans with mad cow disease may have contaminated the British blood supply, and they do not use its own blood plasma since as yet no test can adequately screen blood for mad cow disease.) Computer and Accounting jobs, high tech are being exported to India.
If factory jobs, accounting and tech jobs are flooding out of the country, and the government is outsourcing alot of its jobs, is decreasing the postal dept by 40%, eliminating 1 out of 3 military bases, privatizing the military (1 out of 10 serving in Iraq are private), then how do you plan for the future?
If the voting machines are rigged, and the owner of the company making them promises to do everything possible to get the current admin re-elected, then what do you do?
If you are turning 18 in the near future and the draft is reactivated, then what do you do?
YOU KICK ASS! Get busy, find out who your govt reps are, and start emailing them. Then print your email and mail that copy to them. Email your newspaper! Email to other media. Educate them. Bombard them! Get active.
You cant expect any freedom if you dont get out and work for it! It isn't permanent, you have to tend to it. It is not an entitlement, but a badge of honor.
If you do not resist evil, then you enable it.
Get tough, stand up and fight!

Protest Limbaugh Favoritism
12.28.03 (9:38 pm) [edit]
"The City of West Palm Beach Florida, the District Attorney's Office, the County and State Agencies, the State of Florida, the DEA, FBI, and Justice Department have all backed off from this investigation of Rush Limbaugh's illegal drug use, illegal drug purchasing, and his use of others to purchase his illegal drugs." "They have decided to go after the 'sellers/dealers' of the illegal prescription and other drugs Rush Limbaugh has used and purchased over the last four years. The powers to be are also going to prosecute the poor maid who Rush 'used' and 'intimidated' as a middle man to purchase his illegal drugs. An addict is an addict. If it were your wife, husband, daughter or son who was caught in similar criminal circumstances, and you were not with the 'in crowd,' and you did not have political clout, then your loved ones would 'go to jail' and be punished to the maximum extent of the law. Remember Rush has purchased thousands of pills over the last four years."
"What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with illegal drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with using and trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we're not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too." -- Rush Limbaugh show, Oct. 5, 1995 Take a stand against insider favoritism." | The Anti Bush- Attacks on Dean Just Slide Right Off |
12.27.03 (12:28 pm) [edit]
What is it about Dean that is so appealing?
He doesnt take his orders from the "Press" or the "Establishment".
Why is that so important?
Because the "internet generation" has compared notes and found that the "Press" and the "Establishment" are BOGUS. The "Net-Gens" found and read the fine print: "This News Announcement and Pundit Statements are a PAID ADVERTISEMENT by Corporate Sponsors.... The statements presented on this show are not ACTUAL EVENTS, NOR DO THEY REPRESENT THE ACTUAL THOUGHTS OF REAL PEOPLE AS PORTRAYED IN THIS SHOW."
Howard is the Anti-Bush, the Anti-Crony. He is CONNECTED with his supporters, and not filtered or censored by CORPORATE INTERESTS.
HE DOESNT HIRE ADVERTISING AGENCIES TO TELL YOU THAT A MISTAKE IS NOT A MISTAKE, HE explains his mistake and claims it and MOVES ON. He corrects himself.
DEAN IS NOT A BIG CORPORATE SUCKUP!
Attacks on Dean Just Slide Right Off"When Howard Dean appeared on NBC's "Meet The Press," the reviews were scathing, with most pundits calling the interview earlier this year a disaster. But others saw it differently. Traffic on Dean's Web site soared, and he collected more than $100,000 in the next 24 hours."
"When Dean suggested America was no safer with Saddam Hussein in custody, rivals in the Democratic presidential contest seized on his comments as a major gaffe. But days later, more than 30 New Jersey lawmakers — joined by Gov. James E. McGreevey — elbowed onto a packed stage to endorse him." | Oil = War and Misery: Uruguay Votes Against Privatization of Their Oil |
12.23.03 (9:33 pm) [edit]
The IMF is trying to force Uruguay to sell their oil industry to the "Nice" corporations, who only want to help them.
Ancap provides the government with a substantial part of the income used to fund pension plans, health care, and education.
The IMF has considerable clout in Uruguay due to the country's massive foreign debt, most of which is left over from the rule of US-backed military dictators in previous decades. (we were just trying to give them democracy) RRIGHT!http://dominionpaper.ca/inter...
Look for war in any country that refuses to be bullied into selling its natural resources to a corporation. i.e Iraq, Nigeria anywhere. (Iraq had nationalized its oil)

Iraq-Gate I as written in 1993 by CJR
12.21.03 (3:12 pm) [edit]
March/April 1993 from the Columbia Journalism Review ABC News Nightline opened last June 9 with words to make the heart stop. "It is becoming increasingly clear," said a grave Ted Koppel, "that George Bush, operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980s, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into the aggressive power that the United States ultimately had to destroy."
Most say that the so-called Iraqgate scandal is far more significant then either Watergate or Iran-contra, both in its scope and its consequences. And all believe that, with investigations continuing, it is bound to get bigger.
Why, then, have some of our top papers provided so little coverage?

French Fry Cheney Over Fraud
12.20.03 (6:04 pm) [edit]
Cheney faces prosecution: report December 21, 2003 - 12:05PM A French official is examining whether to prosecute US Vice President Dick Cheney over alleged complicity in the abuse of corporate assets dating from the time he was head of the services company Halliburton, the French newspaper Le Figaro said.
The case stems from a contract by a consortium including the American company Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR), a Halliburton subsidiary, and a French company, Technip, to supply a gas complex to Nigeria, the newspaper reported.
A Paris investigating magistrate has been conducting investigations since October into allegations that $US180 million ($A243.18 million) was paid in secret commissions during the late 1990s up to 2002 from funds established by the consortium in Madeira, the report said.
Cheney was Halliburton's chief executive between 1995 and 2000.
In a letter to the attorney-general's department, magistrate Reynaud van Ruymbeke ruled out directly prosecuting Cheney on a charge of bribing foreign officials, Le Figaro said.
But the official did not exclude the possibility of prosecution on the grounds of complicity in misuse of corporate assets, it added.

Felons @ Diebold Voting Machine Company - 5 in Management
12.20.03 (5:58 pm) [edit]
Felons in management at Voting Machine Manufacturer, writing code for software, etc.Con Job at Diebold Subsidiary 10:05 AM Dec. 17, 2003 PT SAN FRANCISCO -- At least five convicted felons secured management positions at a manufacturer of electronic voting machines, according to critics demanding more stringent background checks for people responsible for voting machine software.
Voter advocate Bev Harris of http://blackboxvoting.org alleged Tuesday that managers of a subsidiary of Diebold, one of the country's largest voting equipment vendors, included a: cocaine trafficker, a man who conducted fraudulent stock transactions and a programmer jailed for falsifying computer records. The programmer, Jeffrey Dean, wrote and maintained proprietary code used to count hundreds of thousands of votes as senior vice president of Global Election Systems, or GES. Diebold purchased GES in January 2002. According to a public court document released before GES hired him, Dean served time in a Washington state correctional facility for stealing money and tampering with computer files in a scheme that "involved a high degree of sophistication and planning."
The former GES is Diebold's wholly owned subsidiary, Global Election Management Systems, which produces the operating system that touch-screen voting terminals use.
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California) announced a bill last week that would require stringent background checks on all electronic voting company employees who work with voting software. The bill, which Boxer plans to introduce in January, would toughen security standards for voting software and hardware, and require touch-screen terminals to include printers and produce paper backups of vote counts by the 2004 presidential election in November.
Harris and Andy Stephenson, a Democratic candidate for secretary of state in Washington, conducted a 10-day investigation in Seattle and Vancouver, where the men were convicted. Harris and Stephenson released the findings in a 17-page document online and at a news conference in Seattle.
Also Tuesday, Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed announced legislation that would require electronic voting machines in the state to produce a paper trail. If the legislature approves it, touch-screen machines in the state would be required to produce paper receipts by 2006.
Voters would get to see but not touch or remove the receipts, which would be kept in a county lock box. Computer programmers say software bugs, hackers or electrical failures could cause more than 50,000 touch-screen machines used in precincts nationwide to delete or alter votes. California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley said last month that touch-screens in the nation's most populous state must provide paper receipts by 2006. http://www.wired.com/news/evo...,2645,61640,00.html

Rachel's fellow activists have dug her a little out of the sand and are trying to keep her neck straight due to spinal injury. Photo by Joseph Smith. (ISM Handout) "The confrontation between the ISM and the Israeli Army had been under way for two hours when Rachel was run over. Rachel and the other activists had clearly identified themselves as unarmed international peace activists throughout the confrontation.
The Israeli Army are attempting to dishonour her memory by claiming that Rachel was killed accidentally when she ran in front of the bulldozer. Eye-witnesses to the murder insist that this is totally untrue. Rachel was sitting in the path of the bulldozer as it advanced towards her. When the bulldozer refused to stop or turn aside she climbed up onto the mound of dirt and rubble being gathered in front of it wearing a fluorescent jacket to look directly at the driver who kept on advancing. The bulldozer continued to advance so that she was pulled under the pile of dirt and rubble. After she had disappeared from view the driver kept advancing until the bulldozer was completely on top of her. The driver did not lift the bulldozer blade and so she was crushed beneath it. Then the driver backed off and the seven other ISM activists taking part in the action rushed to dig out her body. An ambulance rushed her to A-Najar hospital where she died." http://electronicintifada .net/v2/article1248.shtml" title="http://electronicintifada .net/v2/article1248.shtml" target="_blank"http://electronicintifada .net...

"Ellen Mariani filed a lawsuit Nov. 26 under the 1970 Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania."
The suit alleges that President Bush and other officials knowingly and willfully failed to act to prevent the murder of her husband, Louis Neil Mariani, who was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 175, which crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. Read it at: GovExec.com - http://www.govexec.com/dailyf...

The Truth About Vaccines - Before You Get Another Vaccine
12.13.03 (6:05 pm) [edit]
There is a widely held belief that vaccines should not be criticized because the public might refuse to take them. This is valid only if the benefits exceed the known risks of the vaccines.
Vaccines are enormously profitable for drug companies and recent legislation in the U.S. has exempted lawsuits against pharmaceutical firms in the event of adverse reactions to vaccines which are very common
In 1986 there were 1300 cases of pertussis in Kansas and 90% of these cases occurred in children who had been adequately vaccinated
Vaccines and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome SIDS The peak incidence for SIDS is age 2 to 4 months the exact time most vaccines are being given to children.
A Dr. W. Torch was able to document 12 deaths in infants which appeared within 3½ and 19 hours of a DPT immunization. He later reported 11 new cases of SIDS death and one near miss which had occurred within 24 hours of a DPT injection. When he studied 70 cases of SIDS two thirds of these victims[5] had been vaccinated from one half day to 3 weeks prior to their deaths.
There is valid reason to think that not only are vaccines worthless in preventing disease they are counterproductive because they injure the immune system permitting cancer, auto-immune diseases and SIDS to cause much disability and death.
An article in the Washington Post on Jan. 26, 1988 mentioned that all cases of polio since 1979 had been caused by the polio vaccine with no known cases of polio from a wild strain since 1979 http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james.htm" title="http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james.htm" target="_blank"http://www.newswithviews.com/...

Rumsfeld Plans to Privatize the Military
12.07.03 (12:53 pm) [edit]
"Rumsfeld has already outsourced much of the logistics and supply functions of the military to private firms, especially to Cheney's old employer Halliburton. There are now 90-odd companies competing to provide private soldiers from places like Fiji and Nepal to work as machine-gun-toting guards in Iraq."

U.S. Oil Co. in Court Over Slavery forced labor, rape, torture -- even killing.
12.06.03 (10:09 pm) [edit]
The California based Unocal oil company's corporate partners used Myanmar's (also known as Burma) notoriously brutal military regime to provide "security" for a natural gas pipeline project in the remote Yadana region near the Thai border.
In other words, the Myanmar Military was hired by Unocal to see that an oil pipeline went through.
The soldiers' true role was to force villagers in the pipeline region to work without pay -- a modern form of slavery, the 9th Circuit opinion said.
And Unocal knew, both before and after investing in the project, that the military was enslaving the people, the opinion said.
Unocal's own consultant, former military attache John Haseman, reported to Unocal in December 1995 that the soldiers were committing "egregious human rights violations" along the pipeline route.
It's a case involving allegations of forced labor, rape, torture -- even killing.
People were forced out of their homes
The suits claim that, because of the pipeline project, the villagers lost their homes, their family members were killed, and they were raped, assaulted, tortured or forced into slavery http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/150576_human01.html" title="http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/150576_human01.html" target="_blank"http://seattlepi.nwsource.com...

Tell Pres Bush:Withdraw your overtime pay take-away,Energy De-Reg feeds Corp Crooks - History!
12.05.03 (6:38 am) [edit]
Under a proposal by President Bush, more than 8 million workers might not be paid extra for the overtime hours they work. President Bush can make these changes through executive order, even over objections from Congress. Please show your support for overtime pay during the Overtime Pay National Week of Action by signing this petition. http://www.saveovertimepay.org/index.cfm" title="http://www.saveovertimepay.org/index.cfm" target="_blank"http://www.saveovertimepay.or...
He is a greedy S.O.B.dont let him get away with this...
USE YOUR POWER TO ACT WHILE YOU STILL CAN GET POWER FOR YOUR PC! Roosevelt created the new law in 1935 called the Public Utility Holding Company Act, to correct the Enron like accounting practices and price hikes that incited the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression.
in the ensuing 68 years, not one electric utility holding company regulated under PUHCA ever went bankrupt. Not one! Utilities made some mistakes, of course, like building nuclear plants. But overall, the economy, which became dependent on reliable electricity, did pretty well.
By the 1990s, though, some rich, powerful people started complaining about not making enough money. The brilliant people at Enron didn’t like PUHCA. So they used their power and money to get some exemptions from the law. Then all hell broke loose. You know that story. Other energy companies like NRG Energy, Mirant and NorthWestern Corp. demanded, and got, similar treatment. So where did they go? You got it: bankruptcy court.
Instead, here’s what we heard coming out of Washington: "PUHCA is outdated. It stifles competition. It prevents investment." They said this knowing that we are far more dependent on electricity than in 1935.
Congress at this moment is perilously close to approving this. Then, we will see if history repeats. Plan on more blackouts. Its Piling Up!! Unemployment is still looking worse:Read between the lines - Apparently the unemployment statistics are not close to the truth.
Once a person has collected all of their possible unemployment benefits for the year, they are no longer counted as unemployed, even if they are. Gee, that is awfully similar to the way we do body counts in Iraq.
Even your postman is at risk: Co-chairman appointed by Bush, James Johnson recommends reducing the Postal labor force via attrition, noting that 47% to be eligible for retirement in the next 7 years.http://www.govexec.com/dailyf...

Ohio finds Black Hole in Security Flaws of electronic voting machines
The state's top elections official has called off deploying them in March
The findings confirmed what experts across the country have said for months:
"Electronic voting systems are prime targets for manipulation by anyone from expert computer hackers to poll workers to individual voters." http://www.cleveland.com/news...
I think considerable credit should be given to Presidential Candidate, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who posted Diebolds internal memos on his government web-site.
"Diebold Employee Manual Reveals Knowledge of Software Flaws" He also pointed out that Diebold had conflicts of interest: 'In August 2003, after returning from President Bush’s Crawford, TX ranch, Diebold’s chief executive wrote a fundraising letter where he stated he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."' http://www.house.gov/kucinich...
HIS WEBSITE IS A MUST SEE, he really knows what is going on, and he is good at rooting out corruption. This is the guy that kept Clevelands public power company being bought out by a private interest. Kucinich, Capable Crusader!!

What Special Interests Control Your Senator? Easy to Read Chart Breaks it Down!
12.03.03 (6:37 am) [edit]
How Honest/Crooked is your politician? I thought it would be interesting to see if/how special interest groups influenced the recent vote on the Medicare Reform Bill.
When you look at this chart, you can pretty well predict how these senators are going to vote on some of the issues.
If you are against this bill, you should be interested to know that Senator Lieberman (da Bagel) and Senator John Kerry (Catsup King) did not cast their votes. By the way, they both received large contributions from the following industries:
Senator John Kerry Lawyers/firms $3,079,449 Insurance $130,750 Hlth Profs. Pharma $ 333,076 Comm Bks $212,375 Lobbyist $227,950 Sec/Invest $1,031,275
Senator Lieberman Lawyers/firms $1,480,361 Insurance $173,000 Hlth Profs. $361,950 Pharma $73,000 Lobbyist $106,935 Sec/Invest $661,450
I created a spreadsheet with all of the senators listed as voted yay or nay, and listed some of their top supporting industries by campaign donation. Amounts are listed, information from searching www.opensecrets.org. When you look at the whole picture, it is clear that campagn finance is the one most corrupting factor in politics.
I have converted the spreadsheet to pdf format, so adobe acrobat reader is the software that opens it. I analyzed more industries than shown, but had trouble formatting, so I tried to show the most related and/or the most unusual. Let me know what you think.

The Recently Passed Medicare bill further demonstrates more of the Reverse Robinhood like action of the pResident and the Special Interest Controlled Senate and Congress.
I have created a spreadsheet breaking down the Senators into Yes and Nov votes for the Medicare Bill. This chart shows how much money related industries have donated to each senator.
You will be shocked!
