When the Deception Began.....
06.25.04 (7:54 pm)   [edit]
"Since the National Security Act of 1947, in which the people agreed that their government would tell them only what it wanted them to hear"

citizens have relied on the government to act in good faith. It would shake their entire belief system to question that good faith.

Why the Natl Inst for Blind LOVES DIEBOLD
06.11.04 (3:48 pm)   [edit]
"We recognize a spirit of common interest and generosity in Diebold, and we are joining with the computer developers within that company to design inexpensive, effective machines."

"They also believe in us. They want to support enhanced technology for the blind, and they have promised to help us build the National Research and Training Institute for the Blind with a gift in the amount of one million dollars. The president of Diebold, Incorporated, Mr. Walden O'Dell, will be with us at this convention." http://204.245.133.32/BM/BM01...

E-Voting Bill for North Carolina
06.01.04 (6:46 pm)   [edit]
This is what our group has been working so hard for:
Please forward this message to anyone whom you think might be interested.

Act Now!
Help Make Sure Your Vote Counts in November!
Electronic voting machines in two North Carolina Counties lost 436 ballots because of a software mistake in early voting in 2002.
The machines had to be replaced by paper ballots during the general election.
In Broward County, Florida, in January 2004, electronic voting machines failed to record votes for 134 voters who used them. The election was won by 12 votes, so that a recount was required. But no recount was possible because there was no paper trail.

Despite hundreds of such mishaps across the country, many North Carolina county election officials are rushing toward computerized voting, spending millions of taxpayer dollars. But there is no hurry.
Let your NC Assembly representatives know that you want the entire state to stop and study the issue before making any more decisions about voting systems.

Call, write, or meet with your NC representatives and urge them to support the "Voter Paper Trail Study" bill -- S1415 in the Senate; H1748 in the House.
The bills would:

1)Impose a moratorium on purchase of paperless electronic voting machines until July 1, 2005, allowing time for a study to be conducted.

2) Set up a commission to study whether paper ballots should be required for all voting systems and how to ensure that all disabled individuals can vote independently.

It's only reasonable. Tell your Representatives that you believe rushing into decisions needlessly is taking an unnecessary risk with our money and our democracy. There's nothing to lose by studying the issue.

Find out who your senator and representative are here:

For more effective action, please join the lobbying campaign of NC Coalition for Verifiable Voting.
We must succeed during June in persuading the respective committees to vote the bills out to the House and Senate.
Tell us at ncverifiablevoting@yahoo.com who your senator and representatives are (or your 9-digit zip code), so that, with you and others, we can formulate plans for focused lobbying in your district.
We especially need residents of Bladen, Catawba, Cumberland, Durham, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Mecklenburg, and Wake counties.
